Personal Interests
Susan lives in the Bassett area with her husband, Tony, and son, Tyler. In her spare time, she likes to get outside and play a round of golf with Tyler, as he currently attends Bridgewater College and is on their golf team. Her hobbies also include camping with her family and teaching jewelry classes at the Artisan Center.
Biography
Prior to joining Mahoney Family Medicine, Susan received her diploma of nursing from Roanoke Memorial Hospital School of Professional Nursing in 1982. As a member of the Sigma Theta Tau-Gamma Omega Chapter, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Medical College of Virginia in 1989. Attending Old Dominion University with the class of 1996, she received her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Board certified with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners since 1997, Susan came to us from Western Rockingham Family Practice where she spent 5 years in the family practice setting. Prior to that, she was employed at Martinsville Otolaryngology Associates where she exercised her skills in the ENT field. From the years 1982 through 2005, Susan collected experience as a Nurse Practitioner at Memorial Hospital with Primary Care Associates as well as the Women and Children First Clinic. Managerial experience includes director of the Med/Surg/Peds unit for nearly a year, as well as Nurse Manager for the Pediatric Nursery for 5 years. As a Registered Nurse, she gained 5 years of experience in the Critical Care Unit and Recovery Room, and then in Pediatric Nursery for 3 additional years.
